Zelenskyy Criticizes Lack of Early Warning for Russian Missile Strikes on Kyiv

by admin477351

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concern over the lack of early warning from international partners before a Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv, which resulted in damage to civilian infrastructure. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of timely intelligence sharing to protect lives, as five missiles struck civilian targets during the attack on Monday.

The Ukrainian leader highlighted the severity of the strikes and underscored that early warnings about ballistic missile launches are crucial for allowing civilians and emergency services to prepare for incoming threats. Despite ongoing intelligence cooperation, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha suggested the absence of a prior warning might have been due to the specific type of weapon used by Russia.

This incident occurs amidst concerns over potential changes in US intelligence support for Ukraine. Reports indicate that American officials have warned Ukrainian counterparts of the Trump administration’s considerations to suspend intelligence sharing. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials continue to stress the critical role of such cooperation, particularly for detecting ballistic missile launches and monitoring long-range bomber activity.

Tensions have further escalated following attacks on energy infrastructure. US President Donald Trump has urged Ukraine to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries and announced a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding diesel supplies. Trump also claimed a mutual agreement on an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, though Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine had not received confirmation of such an arrangement.

Zelenskyy accused Russia of persisting in its attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities, despite the purported ceasefire. He mentioned that Ukraine had temporarily ceased striking Russian energy infrastructure following the US announcement but emphasized that any suspension must be mutual and backed by credible guarantees.

Russian strikes continue to inflict civilian casualties and destruction across Ukraine. In a separate incident in Kharkiv, Zelenskyy reported four deaths and 41 injuries after a residential building was destroyed. In response to the increasing attacks on cities and energy infrastructure, Ukraine has appealed for additional air-defense support from its partners, including Patriot missile systems, as the country braces for intensified attacks ahead of the winter season.
