Real Madrid climbed to the top of La Liga, tying with Barcelona, after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Elche on Tuesday. The match, which saw Real Madrid surrender a two-goal advantage before clinching the win in stoppage time, underscores both the team’s resilience and the potential threat posed by their closest rivals.

The decisive moment came in the 91st minute when substitute Carlos Espi found the back of the net, securing the win for Madrid. This victory not only marks Madrid’s fifth win in six league matches but also highlights Espi’s growing influence within the team, as the 20-year-old has now scored two critical goals this season despite not yet starting a match.

Madrid initially appeared to have the game under control after taking a commanding lead in the first half. Arda Guler was instrumental in opening the scoring when his free-kick ricocheted off the post, then off Elche goalkeeper Matias Dituro, before crossing the line. Minutes later, Kylian Mbappe doubled the advantage, finishing a cross from Yan Diomande.

However, Elche mounted a spirited comeback in the second half. Abiel Osorio’s header from a Lucas Cepeda cross and Nino’s 83rd-minute equaliser brought the visitors level, setting the stage for a tense finale. In response, Madrid manager Jose Mourinho introduced Espi and Endrick, a tactical shift that proved decisive as Espi capitalized on a pass from Mbappe to score the winner.

While Real Madrid celebrated their dramatic victory, other La Liga matches delivered notable results. Valencia secured their first win of the season with a 1-0 triumph over Alaves, and Rayo Vallecano edged past Espanyol with a 2-1 victory. Meanwhile, defending champions Barcelona, now level on points with Madrid, are set to face Racing Santander next.
