Belgian Diamond Firm Uses Advanced Tech for Custom Ring Gift to Trump

The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) has crafted a bespoke luxury ring for U.S. President Donald Trump, marking the United States’ forthcoming 250th anniversary and underscoring the enduring partnership between the American and Belgian diamond industries. The ring, made of 18-karat gold, is adorned with 321 diamonds, 56 sapphires, 13 emeralds, and six rubies, all set amidst patriotic symbols. It also bears the numbers 45 and 47, alongside the years 1776 and 2026, and is engraved with the phrase, “Crafted in Antwerp for Donald John Trump” on the inside.

The ring was presented to U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Bill White, who is responsible for ensuring its delivery to President Trump. In a video message, Trump expressed gratitude towards Antwerp’s diamond community for what he termed as the “magnificent Freedom 250 ring.” This gesture arrives in the wake of the Belgian diamond industry successfully negotiating the removal of U.S. import tariffs on polished diamonds. Although the AWDC confirmed its involvement in providing input to the European Commission during these discussions, it clarified that it did not engage in direct lobbying with the U.S. administration.

Independent jewelers have appraised the ring’s value to be between $25,000 and $35,000. Within the United States, while presidents can receive personal gifts under specific legal and ethical guidelines, gifts from foreign entities are still subject to constitutional and disclosure requirements. The presentation of this high-value gift has reignited discussions around the acceptance of such offerings by public officials, with ethics experts highlighting ongoing debates concerning transparency and potential conflicts of interest.
